Before you begin, keep a few things in mind:

1. Don't forget about your fire lizards- many people write them and then forget their characters own them. Remember, if you would like a gold firelizard, there is a waiting list. You have to ask that your name be added to it. Bronze firelizards are available. Please, do not give your persona more than three firelizards without discussing it with the BoD.

2. Try to avoid stereotypes or cliches. Fandom has a huge number of red-haired, blue-eyed characters. Now, I love red hair and blue eyes (possibly because I'm a natural redhead with blue eyes myself). But they're both recessive traits.

3. Try to write interesting characters. People aren't defined by their strengths but rather their limitations. And how much fun could a 24 Turn Lord Holder's genius master harper daughter with a gold fire lizard who Impressed the gold hatchling with her ability to Hear All Dragons be? By the same token, Pern is pastoral and there probably aren't a whole lot of people who are abused, abducted, or abandoned.

4. A lot of us want to make characters with "interesting" backgrounds. This is fine; there are many interesting people in the world. But please remember that rape, incest, abuse, and other traumatic experiences happen in the real world. Some members of fandom have had to deal with issues like these in their lives. Please, be sensitive to others when adding tragedy to your character's background.

After you complete your persona sheet, send it in a .txt document or in an e-mail to Colleen at GoldOrlith@aol.com

Mundane Information
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Name: Your name or a name you prefer to be called.
E-mail: If you don't have an address, how did you get here?
Computer: So we never accidentally send you a file you can't open.
Birthdate: Not making any promises, but we'll send felicitations if we do remember.
How much are you willing to put into Cascade? Will you write a lot? Will you have many characters?
Persona Information
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Name: Remember, all male riders honorific their names. Females riding blues and greens are given the option. If you have a rider, let us know their name prior to Impression. If you have a Candidate, let us know what their name will be after Impression.

Nickname(s): Is your character called by any other names?

Rank/Position/Title: What does your character do? Bluerider? Drudge? Crazy old lady who sits on her porch and has fifty cats? There are status positions available. But keep in mind that they have writing requirements.

Cascade does not have "Queen Candidates." All female Candidates can potentially Impress a gold unless their sexual preference prohibits it. If you have a female Candidate you would like the BoD to consider for a gold, you are required to submit one story about that Candidate prior to a gold hatching.

Sex and Preference: If you can't figure this one out... You don't have to state a sexual preference but it's a good thing to know about your persona.

Age: Turns and years are the same thing.
Candidates are between the ages of 14 and 25, male and female. Younger Candidates and older Candidates will be accepted only after careful consideration by the BOD.

Birthdate: Mundane or Pernese. Click here to see the conversion charts.

Birthplace: If you chose to write a Northern rider, just remember that they aren't especially fond of the lazy Southerners.
Here are the major locations on the Southern Continent. You can see them on the map.

Cascade Sea Weyr
Cascade Falls Hold
Sandy Shores Sea Hold
Riverbend Hold
Inland Hold
Far South Hold

Harpercraft at Sandy Shores Sea Hold
Dolphincraft at Sandy Shores Sea Hold
Healercraft at Cascade Falls Hold
Beastcraft at Inland Hold
Tannercraft at Inland Hold
Minercraft at Far South Hold
Smithcraft at Far South Hold
Bakercraft, weavercraft, and many others are taught locally. If you would like to be the Mastercraftsman of one of the above crafts or one not mentioned, just say so!

Mother/Age/Rank/Location: All you really need is a name, but more helps.

Father/Age/Rank/Location:

Foster Parents: Fostering is a grand practice. Riders almost always foster their children. In the holds and halls, the children of especially important people are fostered but most of the other residents will raise their own (and usually those of the important people, too).

Siblings/Age/Rank: Pern doesn't have birth control. There will be lots of kids in most families. But you only need to name the important ones.

Children/Age/Rank: Again, without birth control, most people over the age of 25 are going to be parents, unless their preferences don't run in that direction.

Eye color/shape: Now we're getting to the good stuff!

Hair color/style: Once Thread begins to fall, both male and female riders will tend to wear their hair short. For now, anything works...

Height: How tall are they? In feet and inches, please. If you are in a sensible country that uses meters, we'll try to figure it out.

Weight/Build: Since numbers don't always tell the story, what is your character's body type? Stocky? Lithe? Voluptous?

Complexion: Albino? Peaches and cream? Ebony? Zitty and pockmarked?

Handedness: Even ambidexterous people favor one hand over the other.

Voice: Optional.

Jewelry/weapons: Everyone has at least a beltknife...

Clothing: Colors and styles your persona favors.

Personal Possessions: Everyone has that one cherished treasure.

Background: Here's where you make your charater your own. What events occurred in their life to make them who they are today? Do they get along with their parents and foster parents? What did they want to be when they were growing up? Do they have any hobbies? Not only do we want to hear all about your character but this gives >you a chance to really get to know them.

Timeline: Optional but encouraged. Makes it easier later when you're trying to figure out how many Turns ago your character Impressed.

Personality: Sometimes it's helpful to look back at the background or do this part first? How do they react under stress? What's their favorite color? What do they look for in a mate? Remember, we all have flaws and limitations. Are they rude? Do they suffer from poor hygiene?

Abilities: Is there anything your persona does really well?

Pets: Firelizards? Dogs? Cats? Tunnel snakes? A trundlebug farm? Name of pet and a description of what they look like. "Blue firelizard" works, but what color blue is he? Dogs and cats are poor pets for riders.

Other: Anything else we need to know?

Dragonriders
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dragon's name: All dragon names end in -th. And we've all seen Myth and Zenith... Dragon names are no more than three syllables long. If it's hard to say, give us a pronunciation, please!
Dragon's color: Gold, bronze, brown, blue, and green. Golds are available by Impression only.
Date of Impression: Backdate to a past clutch. Click here to see the clutch charts. Or Impress at a future Hatching.
Dam: See clutch charts.
Sire: See clutch charts.
Wing: These are the wings at Cascade Sea Weyr. If you like, we can chose one for you. Or visit the winglist.
Low altitude- Ocean Wing (Queen's Wing) and Weyrling Wing
Middle altitude- River Flight
East Bank Wing
West Bank Wing
Delta Wing
Drake's Wing
Dorado Wing
High altitude- Ocean Flight
Cascade Falls Wing (Weyrleader's Wing)
Sandy Shores Wing
Inland Wing
Far South Wing
Riverbend Wing
Size: Here are the sizes, largest to smallest, for our timeline. They are in feet. As you can see, wingspan is roughly three times the length:
ColorLengthWingspan
Gold80/70/60240/210/180
Bronze70/60/50210/180/150
Brown60/50/40180/150/120
Blue50/40/30150/120/90
Green40/30/20120/90/60
If you want a larger or smaller dragon, just ask. Dragons are still growing in our timeline. Sadirith is 56 feet long, so you know how your dragons measure up to their Senior Queen... And Weyrlingmistress E'lysa's blue Serth is 53 feet long, so your dragonets know how they measure up to their teacher.
Appearance: Antique bronze? Coppery? Does the hide have areas of light and dark? Does your dragon have any training scars? They won't have any Threadscoring... yet.
Personality: Just like your persona? Completely opposite? Do they become excited easily? Do they sleep alot? Remember, a dragon is a character, too.
Relationships: Do they like firelizards? Are they afraid of anything?
Strengths and Weaknesses: Good flame control? Poor stamina? This will help you determine your wing, as well. A dragon with great agility would be valued in a lower altitude wing where they could execute arial acrobatics in pursuit of stray Thread.
Crafters
~~~~~~~~
Craft: Healer? Harper? Smith? Tanner?

Master(s): Who did they study under? Not all of the crafts have actual masters so making up a name is completely acceptable.

Rank: Remember, children are apprenticed at the age of 12 and rarely any younger. They won't reach journeyman until they're 17 or 18, at least 20 in the smithcraft. Masters are at least 30.

Specialty: What is it they do? Midwife? Shoe cobbler? Specialties come in the journeyman Turns.

Strengths and Weaknesses: What do they do well, or not so well?

Holders
~~~~~~~
Hold: There are five major and countless minor holds.
Size: Major, minor, or cot?
Rank/Position: Lord Holder? Holder (for minor holds)? Headwoman?
NPCs
~~~~
Name: Of the NPC.

Age:

Sex:

Rank/Location: NPC riders and Candidates are also welcome. Please do not NPC female crafters or bronzeriders.

PC they're associated with: That's your PC.

Controller: That's you!

Permissions: Can other people use them? Do we have to ask first? And most importantly, are they adoptable?
