There are status positions available at Cascade Sea Weyr. They come with requirements. We're lenient for the most part, but if we see you shirking your duties (ie. you don't write as much as you need to) we know someone who will be losing their status position... If you have what could be construed as a status position, in addition to being expected to write a certain number of stories, be prepared to be asked to compile a list of dragon names or some other mundane chore if we need one done.

There will only be gold eggs on the sands when membership is sufficient to merit a gold egg.

Gold dragons are reserved for those who are active members who demonstrate solid writing skills. This does not mean write ten one-page stories about various personae. We'd be more likely to give a gold dragon to someone who writes one or two incredibly well-written stories.

The Zine

Cascade's 'zine is called Cascading Falls. Our next deadline is April 15. We'd like to provide everyone with ample reading material for Spring Break. 'Zines are distrubuted when Lissa, our 'zine goddess, has time. This is about three times a year. Hey, she's working on her Ph.D. We should bow and worship that she's doing this for us at all!

As an offline weyr, we aren't supposed to e-mail the zine. So you'll need to tell us your snail-mail address- your home, your grandmother's home, your mom's workplace... any address will do, but we do need an address from you. This is private information and we will respect it as such. If you absolutely, positively, under any circumstances CANNOT give out your address, e-mail Colleen at GoldOrlith@aol.com and we'll work something out. Promise.

The zine will be distributed in two forms. You'll be asked to choose which form you would like to receive. And then you'll send your money and your address to Lissa. But we're not putting her address up here! The zine will only cost you the price of materials and postage.

There will be a disk form. This costs about $5 if you'd like Lissa to send you disks but if you snail mail the disks to her, it only costs the price of postage. We'll also be distributing the zine as a hard copy. That means a large envelope will arrive in your mailbox and inside will be your very own copy of the zine on real paper. This costs about $10 and it is well worth it! There is nothing in the world like seeing your writing in print!

The Requirements

In order to understand writing requirements, take this example: your character is a bronzerider. You will be asked to submit two stories for the zine per calendar year. If your bronzerider is also a Wingleader, you'll be expected to submit three stories per year, NOT five stories. You will only be expected to fill the requirements for the highest status position your character holds, not all the status positions they hold.

Additionally, those required three stories are to be written about your bronzerider Wingleader character. So be conservative when taking status positions or you'll find yourself overwhelmed by the writing requirements. If you fail to satisfactorily meet any requirements, you will be asked to give up your status character or they will be demoted.

To meet your writing requirements, we recommend co-authoring stories with other members. Each co-authored story will count as one half a story for each contributor. Additionally, artwork and poetry can be submitted as the equivalent of one story.

Stories containing gratuitous sex and violence, Terran obscenities, and material inappropriate for persons under the age of 13 will not be accepted for publication.

    Weyrwoman

Weyrwoman Phedre is written by Colleen.
There should be four stories each year about the Weyrwoman. Ideally there should be at least one in every issue of the 'zine. But the Weyrwoman's mun is a very busy person. In addition to all the fun fanfic writing, Colleen also updates the webpage, approves personae, assists in editing, and tries to live a normal life outside of the way-too-many weyrs she happens to be a member of.

    Weyrwoman's Second

The Weyrwoman's Second position is currently unoccupied. There will be a contest in late March to determine who will write a northern queenrider to transfer to Cascade. This contest is open to current members only!
The Weyrwoman's Second is required four stories each year. The Weyrwoman's Second is NOT a BoD position. But we'll make you do mundane work anyway.

    Weyrleader

Weyrleader A'drin is written by Lissa.
The Weyrleader should have four stories each calander year. Currently, Lissa is in charge of zine production and she's working on her PhD. Would you rather read about the Weyrleader of recieve your copy of the zine on time? I thought so.

    Weyrleader's Second

Anne writes Weyrleader's Second T'vonn. This is a BoD position.
The Weyrleader's Second should write three stories each year. The Weyrleader's Second should also help the Weyrleader with the Wing report for the Cascade Falls Wing.

    Weyrlingmaster

At the moment, Claire writes for Weyrlingmistress E'lysa.
Besides keeping the Candidates and the weyrlings in line, the Weyrlingmaster should write two stories each year. Also responsible for Candidate classes and Weyrling Training schedules.

    Weyrlingmaster's Assistants

Weyrling Class A is overseen by bronzerider T'vorin (Dani).
Weyrling Class B is overseen by brownrider M'rtyn (Rana).
Each weyrling class will require an Assistant Weyrlingmaster to oversee their education directly. Two stories and assistance to the Weyrlingmaster/mistress.

    Headwoman

Gwen's Headwoman Shanev rules the roost in the weyr.
The Headwoman should submit two stories and one report on the lower caverns per year. This applies to the Headwomen of weyrs, holds, and halls. The Headwoman's Second is required one story each year and must assist the Headwoman with her report.

    Wingleaders

See the winglist for a current list of openings for Wingleaders.
Wingleaders in high altitude wings must ride bronze and brown dragons. Wingleaders in mid-altitude wings may also ride blue dragons. Wingleaders are expected to write three stories each year and one Wing report.

    Wingseconds

See the winglist for a current list of openings for Wingseconds.
Wingseconds can ride bronze, brown, and blue dragons in the high altitude wings. Greenriders can rise to Wingsecond in the mid-altitude wings. Wingseconds will be asked to write two stories each year and help their Wingleader with the Wing report.

    Junior Weyrwomen/Goldriders

The retired Weyrwoman Selvi is property of Nikki.
Gold dragons will be given to those members most deserving of such. Goldriders will be expected to write three stories each year.

Goldriders are available by Impression only. When membership is sufficient, the BoD will announce a gold egg in the next clutch. All female Candidates are eligible to Impress the gold unless their sexual orientation prohibits it. Cascade does not have "Queen Candidates." However, if you would like your character to be considered for the gold, you must submit one story about your Candidate prior to the Hatching.

    Hear All Dragons

Anne has cursed Weyrleader's Second T'vonn with this ability. There is one opening for a non-dragonrider with HAD abilities. We will consider applications for this ability in January of 2001.
This ability requires: six months membership, all writing requirements current, all financial obligations for the 'zine paid, and an essay why you and your persona deserve it and how you will handle it- we want an outline of a Plot. No persona who Hears All Dragons will Impress a gold dragon. And only one of the two characters allowed this ability will be a dragonrider. Four stories a year. Anyone writing a character who Hears All Dragons will not be considered for a goldrider. Goldriders will not be considered for characters who Hear All Dragons.

    Bronzeriders

Bronzeriders are available to anyone who has been a member three months or longer. Bronzeriders will write two stories each year.

    Brownriders

Brownriders must write one story per year. While a brown dragon doesn't seem like a status position- and isn't in most other weyrs- as an offliner we need to ensure that there will be plenty of stories in our 'zines.

    Blueriders and greenriders

While blue and greenrider personae are not required to write at all, we would like to see one story a year from everyone.

    Craftmasters

For a list of crafter characters, please visit the character list.
THE Masterharper THE Masterhealer, THE Mastersmith, THE Masterbeastherder, etc. Remember, these positions are situated in the Southern Continent. They also have Northern counterparts but we cannot use The Masterharper of Pern as anything more than an NPC. Positions for craftmasters will be given to people who have been members for three months or longer. Three stories per year and one craft report.

    Mastercraftsmen

Master dragonhealers, master harpers, master healers, etc. Two stories each year and assisting THE craftmaster with the craft report. If there is no craftmaster, the craft report is not required.

    Journeymen and apprentices

No writing requirements, but we would like to hear about your characters and their lives. Please remember that most people on Pern do not formally take a craft. Also remember that only the most talented females are encouraged to take a craft.

    Lord and Lady Holders

Currently only Cascade Falls Hold and Far South hold are being held. Until both holds show an increased population of PCs, we will not open any new holds.
Lords and Ladies will be granted to those who have been members for three months or more. Two stories a year and one hold report. If you control both Lord and Lady, not to worry. The requirements remain the same.

    Holders and Holder's Wives

One story per year. If you control both Holder and his wife, the requirements remain the same.

If you want to write a character that seems to have a status position that isn't listed here, please make a note of it when submitting the persona sheet and writing requirements will be addressed at that time.
